Saru-kun":1up2uc9u]So basically, MOBA's are kind of like RTS. that particular units were "heroes", more important than ordinary units, that heroes could level up individually, etc). It sounds like they took the weird/goofy aspects of Warcraft 3 (i.e. Saru-kun":3makzan2]So basically, MOBA's are kind of like RTS. If butthurt preteens can report you for nothing and get you muted (playing without being able to communicate is absolutely pointless), and you have absolutely no recourse, it seems kind of pointless to invest time and energy into a game. I played Dota2 for quite a while but after I got muted the second time, I decided that was enough for me. I talk a lot (communication is an important part of the game), and I have been muted twice now for no conceivable reason other than people didn't like me or were just trolling by reporting me. If you get a few of these auto reports, you get muted. If you report someone for chatting too much or saying something you don't like, NO ONE reviews that report and it is counted against you. The dark graphics/scenery make it difficult for new players to differentiate between heroes, and really ups the learning curve for an already-difficult genre.Īnother thing I really hate about Dota2 is that you can get muted JUST BECAUSE PEOPLE REPORT YOU (even if you didn't do anything wrong). Dota2 is okay but the turn speed makes it feel kind of sluggish. Have played all the MOBAs, and Heroes of Newerth is by far the best. I mean, I'm not complaining, it's Free To Play without (it seems) being Pay To Win, which seems to be a rare balance to strike these days. I know that this RTS's, and by extension MOBA's, are mostly played for the multi, but that generally comes after 10+ hours of single player to ease you in. I might download Dota at some point and run through the tutorial, but it seems like an RTS-like game without a single-player campaign to gently introduce all the units (100+ in this one?!?) is kind of a bad idea. I got killed very quickly, and I had no idea why, what my goals even were, or how to go about them. I found it completely inscrutable and frustrating. I remember trying to play LoL back when it first came out. So basically, MOBA's are kind of like RTS. those moments may frustrate you, but if your anything like I am they also strengthen your resolve to go out and get your next Ultra-Kill! the problem usually doesn't lie in the losing, its in the losing due to some aspect or another of your team not carrying its weight (an inherent problem with a multi-player public matchmaking system). unfortunately when the same is being done to you it can be quite low. ![]() there's no high like utterly dominating a skilled opposition with good team play and hearing the Booming RAMPAGE as you decimate their team. I have dumped about 400 hours into Dota 2 in the last 2 years I've had beta access and I've hated some of that time and loved it. They are The strategy game you want instead of the one you usually get. That is why Dota II and its predecessors are so amazingly popular. These people want TACTICS they want to flank, and ambush, and surprise they want to plan out complex maneuvers not manage workers resource gathering. Lots of people love Strategy games, and even more still love the idea of strategy games but they find that whenever they buy a strategy game they more or less end up with an economics game with a bit of fighting happening in the middle. I've been playing MOBA/ARTS games since SC1 and it wasn't until Dota 2 that i realized Why it was I liked them. ![]()
